Facebook History

5th July 2019

To minimize Facebook’s data collection I recommend regularly deleting all but the last 12months of posts, pictures etc. Facebook likely still keeps meta-data about that history. GDPR dictates that when history is deleted it must be deleted everywhere but meta-data (data about data) isn’t mentioned specifically. You will loose “Nostalgia” reminders.

Export your data by clicking the Down arrow in the top right corner of Facebook and choosing settings. Click “Your Facebook Information” in the left column. Click “Download Your Information” and Click create file. This will take a long time. Click the “Available Copies” tab; your backup will list as Pending until it is ready to download. Mine was about 80Mb with Medium compression.

The easiest way to delete a range of posts is with a Chrome Plug-in called “Social Book Post Manger” More info here
