Dynamic Dns on Unifi Cloud Gateway UCG

3rd February 2026

FreeMyIp is our DDNS of choice as it is very easy to send a user the link, have them click it (Don’t Click Links In Email, kids!) and allow them through a firewall based on the DNS address. This way when their home IP address changes, they can click the link again and they are self-fixing their access.

In a Unifi you can also use FreeMyIp if you know how

Settings, Internet, Internet 1, In the right pane in tiny letters find Dynamic DNS

Create New

Service: pick FreeMyIP from the drop-down

Hostname: put the DNS name

Username: again put the DNS name

Password: from the URL used to update your DNS, snip the part after “token=” and before “&domain=” ie just the bare token

Server: leave blank

first update worked correct for me, i’ll update how reliable this is

Pros: easy to setup, don’t need yet another password
