Windows AD can’t delete a DHCP

9th June 2025

Symptoms:

when deleting a DHCP address, the address disappears when deleted, but comes back when refresh is clicked. My environment had 2 replicating DHCP servers but unsure if that’s important.

To fix;

  1. Right click, Reconcile the scope, this forces a sync between the Database and AD. makes sure data is current.
  2. Create a DCHP reservation
  3. rename the DHCP reservation, the new name is unimportant
  4. delete the reservation
  5. delete the DHCP entry, hit refresh and verify the entry stays deleted
