Synology NAS won’t Update

Problem child: Synology NAS

Symptoms: Can’t find update server, can’t update from internet time.

Confirmation: Enable SSH, logon and test if NAS can ping default gateway but not the internet (8.8.8.8)

Problem: both Nic/Eth ports are plugged in but 1 of 2 Nic’s cant reach the internet.
The Synology doesn’t have robust routing and instead of trying the other nic it just fails.

Solution: Unplug 1 Nic and test if the NAS can reach the update server.

Permanent Solution: Fix your Spanning Tree or Firewall rules that don’t allow 1 nic to reach the internet.
