Shut down the VM, edit it&#8217;s disk and increase the allocated space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Windows still doesn&#8217;t add the space to it&#8217;s OS disk until you tell it to.<br>Right click on the start menu button and choose &#8220;Disk Manager&#8221;<br>you will notice that there is now unallocated space at the right of Disk 0 or whichever you expanded.<br>Problem1: Windows puts a Recovery partition at the end of the disk, AND you can&#8217;t delete it with Partition Manager<br>Solution1: start a command prompt as administrator and run the following commands<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open a Command Prompt as an administrator, type <em>diskpart<\/em>, and press enter<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Type <em>list disk<\/em>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Likely, you have only one virtual disk attached to your VM<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Type <em>select disk 0<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Type <em>list partition<\/em>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Take note of the number of the \u201cRecovery\u201d partition<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Type <em>select partition #<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Type <em>delete partition override<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"458\" height=\"647\" src=\"https:\/\/increasec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/image.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2117\" srcset=\"https:\/\/increasec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/image.png 458w, https:\/\/increasec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/image-212x300.png 212w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 458px) 100vw, 458px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In partition manager you can now right click on your partition and say expand disk.   It was instantaneous for me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"729\" height=\"476\" src=\"https:\/\/increasec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/image-2.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4199\" style=\"width:467px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/increasec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/image-2.png 729w, https:\/\/increasec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/image-2-300x196.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 729px) 100vw, 729px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Extend Volume, Next<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">when asked for the new size, decrease the final size by 1000mb.  We will use this extra space for our recovery partition<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Create a New Simple Volume using the 1000mb of free space at the end of the disk, do not assign a drive letter, you can name the partition Recovery<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Open DISKPART again as Administrator<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">list disk<br>select disk 0 (or whatever)<br>list part<br>select part 4 (or whatever partition you just make, hint it&#8217;s 1000mb)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">reagentc \/disable<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"6\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Set the WinRE image<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">reagentc \/setreimage \/path R:\\Recovery\\WindowsRE\\<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"7\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Re-enable the WinRE environment<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">reagentc \/enable<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"8\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Doublecheck if the WinRE is active:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">D:\\iTunes&gt;reagentc \/info<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Windows Recovery Environment (Windows RE) and system reset configuration<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Information:<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/answers\/questions\/4027919\/recreating-and-enabling-the-recovery-environment-(\">https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/answers\/questions\/4027919\/recreating-and-enabling-the-recovery-environment-(<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> https:\/\/www.techrepublic.com\/article\/how-to-increase-virtual-disk-size-when-running-windows-10-in-a-vm\/<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Expanding the disk in Vmware is the easy part.
